It’s so cold at the moment the best place to be at home is by the oven or stove.

The past couple of weekends have been very ‘homey’. Making up for the annual holiday overspend and just being cozy for the sake of it. Puss had an op on Friday the 13th. She’s almost better. In the pictures in this post she was a bit out of it on the drugs.
For Christmas I got a few new cookbooks and a kindle. I just finished ‘Freedom‘ by Jonathan Franzen which is brilliant. I treated myself to a Liberty print Kindle cover from a shop I found on Folksy (pictured in the top photo). It’s beautifully made. Lots of cooking at the moment too. I made this olive oil cake but substituted the blood oranges with lemons. And a big batch of Plum & Cardamon preserve.
We found a stray/lost/booted out cat on our street a few weeks ago. She was very frightened, skinny and a bit dirty. We tried to find out if she had an owner in the usual ways but no one was has come forward.
*We’ve gotten rid of her fleas!
We hired a van and stayed in Lyme Regis for a few days. It was wet and windy and we only had 1 coat between us. We explored the coastline, had plenty of seafood, read books, played scrabble and lit a log fire every night.
I had the best food I have had in a long time at The Mill Tea & Dining Room.
